Fert report - IVF#2.5

After nearly having a nervous breakdown while waiting today, my clinic finally called with the fert report! This is how many fertilized:

Disclaimer: These are not my embies, but photos of 5 perfect 8-cell embryos.
I am trying positive visualization that mine will turn out like this!

Yay! 5 of 6 and I'm thrilled with that because that 6th egg was a latecomer and tiny on trigger day, so I wasn't really daring to hope for that one anyway. Sorry, huevo-honey, I loved you while you were here.

I'm doing a 3-day transfer so will go in on Saturday at 10:45am. I'm so happy that NoodleGuy can be there this time -- last time his parents were visiting to go house-hunting nearby and given that we're not telling them what's going on, it was easier just to have him go with them rather try and fabricate some excuse why we both couldn't go.

Anyway, I digress... the ET was a neat experience, as anyone who has done an egg transfer can attest. There's something magical in a sort of clinical, 7 doctors and nurses crowded around you, and a catheter up your hoo-hoo kind of way. It's pretty neat to watch the embies land in your womb and I'm so happy NG will get to see it this time.

We're not sure how many embies we plan on transferring at this point. Obviously it depends on how many make it to Day 3 and what their quality would be. If they all make it, we definitely plan on transferring at least three. If there are more and their quality is poor, we'll probably transfer all. We'll see... we get no more updates until we go in on Saturday when they'll tell us the current cell # and fragmentation and all that jazz. With my track record there's not a big risk of sticky multiples, so that needs to be weighed too.

Question for the ladies: I have an appointment to get a gloss treatment + haircut tomorrow - I'm trying to get it done before the embies come home. Anyone think there's anything wrong with a hair treatment the day before ET? I can sacrifice shiny hair for healthy embies any day!

  1. WAHOO for FIVE!!
I doubt there's any big issues with hair stuff and pregnancy. Maybe bleach or something, but I kind of think that myth about dying your hair, etc. is a wives tale. Maybe I'm wrong, but I dyed my hair 6 days after ET.
So glad that NG will be there for ET- I can't imagine doing it without my DH- you are superwoman. Hoping all your embies are doing fab and I can't wait to hear the final report! :)

  3. Oh Lara - this is just awesome!!! I'm so glad your hubby gets to be there this time. It is a big deal, and I'm sure you'll love the extra support with him there this time :).

I would just call the hair place and ask them about the gloss treatment ahead of time - some of those things state clearly not to use during pregnancy, and it can't hurt to ask!

  4. We are back to the "Cinco de December" group of embies! Yay for 5! I'm so damn happy for you right now. This is so freaking awesome. I've been waiting for an update all day.

It's great that NG gets to go with you, too. At least you can hold his hand while the embies are transferred into your hoo-hoo...that way you can at least say there was SOME physical contact between the two of you during all of this. :-)

I agree with Sarah about calling the salon. It can't hurt to just ask.

I'm going to go nuts not getting another embie update from you until after it's all over. Plus, I will have to wait until Monday because we don't have Internet at home until late next week.

Sending you lots of good dividing vibes and a big (((HUG)))! Squeal!

  6. Wow, that's a great fert report!! I hope the transfer goes well.

I don't know what a gloss treatment is, but the hair cut is probably fine.

  7. Very happy to see this news!!

I have no idea about the hair treatment, but I DO think that if you feel your best, you'll be giving those little embryos the best chance they can have. Good luck!

  8. OMG! You had 5 of the 6 fert? that is an excellent fert rate Lara! I'm so happy for you!!! What a great story :)
I think you'll be all good to go with the gloss treatment. I color my hair and there are products that they can use that don't contin the peroxide, etc. ...
I had my hair dyed at around 16dpt and I just told the girl and she used something different chemical-wise.
SOOOOOOO excited for your Fert report!

  9. Oh wow! I'm doing another happy dance for you! This is such exciting news. I can't wait to hear how the fab 5 are doing Saturday!

I think you are find dying your hair. I actually heard someone ask my doctor this very question and he said it was fine.

I hear your on the old people! I am so thankful my in-laws live across the state. It's far enough away that they can't just drop by and it's close enough that they only spend one night here every now and then. I feel for my SIL who has to deal with them for WEEKS long visits.

Good luck Saturday. I'll be thinking of you.

  14. Here from LFCA...awesome fert report! Congratulations! Best wishes for a smooth ET and good news soon! I would not worry about the hair treatment in the least. The chemicals will be out of your system (if any make it in the first place, which I doubt) by the time the embies implant and then there is no placenta yet anyway, so it can't cross. There's no way it will interfere with your uterus at all. And for what it's worth, my RE herself said she colored her hair throughout her pregnancy, no qualms about it. Whatever you can do to make yourself feel happy and positive (including hair treatments) I say is worth it!

  16. Good luck, good luck, good luck! I wouldn't worry about the hair treatment... I don't think it's really an issue unless the embies are already in there.

Gloss it up, girl. You wanna look good for the day you find out you're pregnant!
