OK, I suck, I admit it. I promised to post about a great IVF deal that I heard about last Saturday and I've been so lethargic and queasy since then that I can barely motivate to log on to my work IM. I'm doing the minimum of work, which is what many of my colleagues do every day, but I'm a nerd and usually try to excel, but that's out the window right now. Who cares about impressing the boss when the couch looks so comfortable? Anyway, I'm going to do two posts today because I wanted to post about the IVF deal separately so that anyone who stumbles upon it isn't also forced to read about my 1st trimester whining.
Remember how I said last week that I was feeling great and was a little nervous about it? Yeah, that's gone and I feel more secure about it :). Evening sickness has hit me with a vengeance. I'll be a little queasy throughout the day, nothing to write home about. But come 6pm or so, I start getting really nauseated and by 9pm I'm curled in a fetal position. I think it has something to do with my little snacking throughout the day and then eating a more significant dinner. My body just does not like a totally full tummy right now, I'm going to have to adjust my meals accordingly, I think, and start eating like a gerbil, frequent and little bits.
My main craving: cheese in all forms. Nice, healthy skim cheese sticks, evil Mexican queso and chips, grilled pepper jack & tomato sandwiches (on whole grain bread!) have become my go-to lunch. OMG, just writing about cheese has me drooling. In order to get the requisite fruits and veggies into me around the constant fromage orgy, I have a yogurt-banana-berry-wheatgerm smoothie every morning and try to have a veggie drink (broccoli-banana-wheatgrass) at night, though the veggie drink has been proving kind of tough with the nighttime barfy feeling. I've been trying to snack on a green pepper in the afternoons so at least I get something green every day. How in the world do people get 7-8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day? No matter how hard I try, I fail on this quest. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears!
One more week until my next and last ultrasound with my RE. I'm trying to be calm and patient during this week and a half wait and mostly succeeding. The crappy feeling + my definite tummy bulge has me feeling somewhat optimistic this time around. The symptoms just weren't there with prior (failed) pregnancies, so NoodleGuy and I are seeing this as a very positive development. Of course, he's not the one that has to sleep with a bucket next to his side of the bed ;).
Oh, and as much as we've tried to call this little being "Boon", we've been on a marathon of The Wire since receiving the entire series on DVD for Christmas (excellent, excellent show - highly recommend it). There's a character on the show named "Bug" and somehow Boon has now become Bug, despite our best efforts. So, Bug it is!
I realized that I hadn't updated my pending-cartwheel list since the last ultrasound, so here we go:
1. Beta #1 (12/29 - 13dpo): 242 - check!
2. Beta #2 (1/2 - 17dpo): 1,206 - check!
3. Beta #3 (1/7 - 22dpo): 8,848 - check!
4. Ultrasound #1 (1/13): 6 weeks - check!
5. Ultrasound #2 (1/20) - 7 weeks - check!
6. Ultrasound #3 (1/29) - 8w2d - check!
7. Ultrasound #4 (2/10) - 10 weeks. Rate of miscarriage drops to less than 2% if a strong heartbeat at 10 weeks. I have never made it this far before. Eek!
8. First appt with OBGYN (2/11) - 10w1d
9. Genetic counselling + 1st trimester screening (2/17), though probably won't get all results until a week later.
10. Possible amnio or CVS depending on #9.
What a great IVF deal. I wish I lived up there, that's awesome. I'd spend as much as a regular cycle though with flying and hotel charges...too bad. Thanks for posting it as I'm sure some readers will be able to take advantage of it.
ReplyDeleteI love how the checklist is getting accomplished for little Bug. Let's keep it going so we all can do cartwheels!
And Yay for symptoms! Keep them coming!
Not sure if I should be sorry or celebrate that you are feeling bad =) The smaller meals things helped me for sure with the quesy feelings of 1T but not sure what to suggest on the veggie thing, I have been having 2 shots a day of wheatgrass because all other green veggies are repulsive to me. Fruit is pretty easy and I have three of those a day. My passion is cheeseburgers...I've been on a quest to find the best in a 30 mile radius =) Can't wait to hear how Bug is doing on the 10th, I'm sure s/he is doing wonderfully!!!
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm cheese! I'm not even pregnant and I crave cheese :). Don't know how to get more veggies in other than juicing or soup - I can't even do 7-8 servings a day as they upset my stomach (veggies are harder for me to digest unless they are cooked down or juiced). I wouldn't worry too much though, because once you're passed this stage you can always make up for your lack of veggies later.
ReplyDeleteThat checklist is looking pretty good :).
Ahh evening sickness! I remember that. I have no advice for help with the fruit or veggies! In the 1T i lived on carbs! Try not to worry too much... eat what sounds good. =)
ReplyDeleteooh that whole evening sickness sounds bad - if comforting for obvious reasons. Have you tried that funny weird "fruit to go" stuff? Its a bit odd but might be worth a try. Or those ready made fruit smoothies by Odwalla and other people? they have lots of sugar though! bananas and yoghurt with granola? might stuff you up though.
ReplyDeleteYour checklist is looking great!
Mmmmm, cheese and carbs. I do better with raw veggies than cooked or juiced. I snack on them throughout the day. Eating a cup of veggies sounds overwhelming but I can handle one baby carrot here and one piece of green pepper there.
ReplyDeleteI hope these last 3 days before the next u/s fly by for you!
i'm so sorry about the evening sickness.. i can tell you the little meals throughout the day DOES help.. at least I really really hope it helps you.. I didn't have it that bad, but when I did, adjusting my food helped a lot.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, it's near impossible to get the amoutn of fruits and veggies we are supposed to.. seriously impossible.. just do the best you can, that's what i say!
